Chapter to Co-Sponsor D.C. Latino Caucus Mayoral Forum and Straw Poll

January 31, 2014

Dear Chapter Members:

dclatinocaucusThe NAHJ Washington, D.C. Chapter Board voted unanimously to co-sponsor the D.C. Latino Caucus Mayoral Forum and Straw Poll. The event will happen Saturday, March 1 at the Josephine Butler Center on 15th Street in Northwest Washington from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. All mayoral candidates have confirmed.

Our participation as a Chapter is limited to providing moderators for the event and reporting the outcome of the Straw Poll. Our Chapter will NOT endorse any candidate for D.C. Mayor. Only members of the D.C. Latino Caucus will vote in the Straw Poll.

The Democratic Primary for D.C. Mayor is the only contested race. No Republican filed to run for D.C. Mayor. Since Congress passed the District of Columbia Home Rule Act in 1973, the winner of the Democratic Primary has gone on to win the general election.

We, the Chapter Board, believe this is great opportunity to participate in a community event that affects the Latino Community in the District of Columbia.

We also believe this community event is in line with our Chapter Mission, to “…ensure the Latino community is fairly and accurately covered by media organizations in the D.C. metropolitan area.”

We hope you can come and cover the event.

Sincerely,
NAHJ Washington, D.C. Chapter Board
